発声 (はっせい) is the standard, formal term for vocalisation, used in technical, medical, and artistic contexts. 声出し (こえだし) is more casual and often implies a warm-up or simply making noise with the voice. Use 発声 for serious or professional settings, and 声出し for everyday, informal situations.
There is no single Japanese word that covers all uses of 'vocalisation'. Always choose the term based on context: 発声 for voice production, 鳴き声 for animal sounds, 音声化 for phonetics, etc. Using 発声 for animal sounds would sound unnatural.
