だのに

conjunction

and yet; but even so; despite that

Conjunction used to express a contrast or unexpected result, similar to なのに but following the plain copula だ. Often used in spoken or informal written Japanese.

• 彼かれは一いっ生しょう懸けん命めい勉べん強きょうした。だのに、試し験けんに落おちてしまった。

  He studied very hard. And yet, he failed the exam.

• 天てん気き予よ報ほうは晴はれだった。だのに、急きゅうに雨あめが降ふり出だした。

  The weather forecast said it would be sunny. But even so, it suddenly started raining.
