A direct loan from English, used in Japanese as a suffix-like expression in award titles, rankings, or labels (e.g., ワード・オブ・ザ・イヤー 'Word of the Year'). Not used as a standalone phrase in ordinary Japanese sentences.

• 「流りゅう行こう語ごオブ・ザ・イヤー」に選えらばれた。

  It was chosen as 'Buzzword of the Year'.

• 今年ことしの「カー・オブ・ザ・イヤー」が発はっ表ぴょうされた。

  This year's 'Car of the Year' was announced.
