A loanword from English, used in Japanese to refer to literature, often with a slightly academic or Western-oriented nuance. Less common than the native term 文学 (ぶんがく).

• 彼かれは英えい米べいのリテラチュアに詳くわしい。

  He is well-versed in English and American literature.

• この講こう義ぎでは20世せい紀きのリテラチュアを扱あつかう。

  This lecture covers 20th-century literature.
