Archaic adjective used to praise someone of lower status; now largely replaced by よい or 立派. Still encountered in classical or period language.

• 「うい奴やつじゃ」と殿との様さまは言いった。

  "He is a fine fellow," said the lord.

• 古こ典てんでは「愛ういやつ」という表ひょう現げんが見みられる。

  In classical literature, the expression 愛いやつ can be found.
