pronoun
you (archaic, with affection or contempt)
Archaic second-person pronoun. A nuance of either deep affection or contempt, depending on context. Not used in modern Japanese; replaced by あなた, 君, お前, etc.
古い和歌に「我人を思ふ心は」といった表現が見られる。
In old waka poetry, one can find expressions like 'the heart that thinks of you'.
The historical derivation is uncertain. The kanji 我 ('self') and 人 ('person') may reflect an old compound, but the exact origin is unclear.
