A somewhat literary or old-fashioned term for a person who drinks, or for a group of drinking friends. In modern casual speech, 飲んべえ or 酒飲み are more common.

• 彼かれは無む類るいの酒しゅ徒とで、毎まい晩ばんのように杯さかずきを傾かたむけている。

  He is an inveterate drinker, tipping back a cup almost every night.

• 学がく生せい時じ代だいの酒しゅ徒とたちと久ひさしぶりに集あつまった。

  I got together with my old drinking companions from my student days for the first time in a while.
