Archaic godan verb covering illness, disaster, hindrance, and accidents. In modern Japanese these meanings are expressed by separate words (e.g., 病気になる, 災難に遭う, 妨げられる). Found only in classical texts.
In classical Japanese, 障む meant to fall ill or to be struck by a disaster.
