かぎや

kagiya!; fireworks cheer

A traditional shout used when viewing fireworks, originally from the name of an Edo-period fireworks vendor (鍵屋). Often called out in a drawn-out manner, sometimes paired with たーまや.

• 花はな火びが上あがると、観かん客きゃくが「かーぎやー！」と叫さけんだ。

  When the fireworks went up, the spectators shouted, 'Kagiya!'

• 「たーまや」と「かぎや」は、花はな火び大たい会かいの定てい番ばんの掛かけ声ごえだ。

  'Tamaya' and 'Kagiya' are classic calls at fireworks displays.
