Translation guide
In English, 'artery' refers to blood vessels carrying blood away from the heart, or metaphorically to major routes. In Japanese, the medical term is 動脈 (どうみゃく), while the metaphorical use is often 大動脈 (だいどうみゃく) or 幹線 (かんせん).
The anatomical blood vessel that carries blood from the heart to the body.
Standard medical and everyday term for artery.
A main road, railway, or river used for transportation, similar to 'arterial road' in English.
動脈 (artery) carries blood away from the heart; 静脈 (じょうみゃく, vein) carries blood back to the heart. Do not confuse them.
When referring to transportation routes, 大動脈 is common for major economic or traffic arteries. 幹線 is more technical and often used in compound words like 幹線道路 (arterial road).
