Translation guide
Describes a person who craves attention, often through dramatic or inappropriate behavior. Japanese has several nuanced terms depending on the type of attention-seeking.
She's such an attention seeker, isn't she?
Slang for someone who constantly seeks attention or validation, often by acting needy or pitiful. Derived from 構って (かまって, 'pay attention to me').
He's always an attention seeker, so it's exhausting.
Literally 'wants to be noticed.' More neutral than 目立ちたがり屋, but still implies a desire for attention.
That kid is an attention seeker and always talks loudly.
Someone who does extreme or annoying things specifically to get a reaction.
Literally 'a person who wants attention.' Used to describe someone who acts needy or pesters others for interaction.
He's an attention seeker, so he deliberately does weird things.
Phrase meaning 'just wants attention.' Often used to dismiss someone's behavior as attention-seeking.
Someone who exaggerates emotions or creates drama to be the center of attention.
Describes a person who is overly dramatic or exaggerates everything. Not exclusively an attention seeker, but often used in that context.
She's such a drama queen; she makes a big fuss over little things.
Literally 'tragic heroine.' Used for someone who acts like they are the star of a tragedy, often to gain sympathy or attention.
Someone who seeks attention by showing off skills, body, or possessions.
かまってちゃん implies a more needy, sometimes annoying desire for attention, often through negative behavior. 目立ちたがり屋 is more about wanting to stand out positively, though it can be negative depending on context.
There is no direct single-word translation for 'attention seeker' in Japanese. Using a phrase like 注意を求める人 (ちゅういをもとめるひと) would sound unnatural and overly literal.

He's an attention seeker who posts on social media every day.
