In Japanese, the word for 'composer' depends on the type of music. The most common term is 作曲家 (sakkyokuka) for a composer of music in general. For classical or art music, 作曲者 (sakkyokusha) is also used. In traditional Japanese music, 作曲 (sakkyoku) can refer to the act or the person, but it's less common. Be careful not to confuse with 編曲者 (henkyokusha) meaning 'arranger'.

編曲者 (henkyokusha) means 'arranger', a person who adapts a composition. If you mean the original creator of the music, use 作曲家 or 作曲者.
