The speaker describes a general stance of disagreeing with mainstream or group consensus.
To hold a different opinion from the majority. A descriptive phrase without strong negative connotation.
彼はいつも多数派と違う意見を持っている。
He always holds opinions that differ from the majority.
English 'dissent' as a verb (e.g., 'I dissent') does not have a single natural Japanese equivalent. Use phrases like 反対する (oppose) or 異議を唱える (raise an objection) depending on context. Simply saying ディセントする is not used.
私はその決定に反対します。
I dissent from that decision.
異議 (いぎ) is a formal objection, often legal. 異論 (いろん) is a differing opinion in discussion. 反対 (はんたい) is general opposition. For dissent in the sense of a minority opinion, 反対意見 is common.
Literally 'I have a different opinion.' A clear but still polite way to express dissent.
この問題について、私は違う意見です。
On this issue, I have a different opinion.
Softens dissent with 'a little' (ちょっと). Suitable for casual or semi-formal settings.
その説明はちょっと違うと思います。
