Translation guide
A place where you can refuel a vehicle. In Japanese, this is most commonly called a ガソリンスタンド. Other terms exist but are less common or have specific nuances.

A place where you buy gasoline/petrol for a car.
The most common and neutral term for a gas station. Used in everyday conversation.
あのガソリンスタンドは24時間営業です。
That gas station is open 24 hours.
ガソリンスタンドでタイヤの空気を入れてもらった。
I had my tires inflated at the gas station.
A more formal or written term for a fueling station. Often seen on signs or in official contexts.
Short for ガソリンスタンド. Can be ambiguous, as スタンド can also mean a stand, desk lamp, or bleachers. Use only when context is clear.
May be misunderstood without context.
ガソリンスタンド is the everyday word. 給油所 is more formal and often used in writing or on official signage. In casual speech, ガソリンスタンド is preferred.
