The English word 'internalization' is sometimes mistakenly used for 'internationalization' (国際化, こくさいか). These are completely different concepts.
内面化 is formal and often used in academic contexts. 身につける is more colloquial and covers a wider range of 'making something your own', from skills to habits. For everyday conversation, 身につける is usually better.
