get tired of, satiate, bore, dislike, disagreeable, unwelcome
厭 centers on reaching a limit of tolerance: becoming tired of something, feeling satiated to the point of dislike, or finding something disagreeable and unwelcome.
厭 originally depicted a dog (犬) under a cliff (厂) with a full belly (月/肉 and 甘), conveying the idea of being satiated or fed up. The modern form retains these elements in a stylized arrangement.
Under the cliff (厂), a dog (犬) has eaten so much meat (月) that even sweet things (甘) make it feel sick. It's completely fed up and tired of everything—that's 厭.
For エン, imagine the dog groaning 'ennn…' in disgust after overeating under the cliff: 'ennn' -> エン, capturing the feeling of being utterly tired of something.
