oh my!; good heavens!; gee whiz

A mild, slightly old-fashioned exclamation of surprise or dismay, often used by women. Similar to あらまあ but with a more drawn-out, expressive feel.

• あれまあ、こんなところでお会あいするなんて。

  Oh my, meeting you here of all places!

• あれまあ、大たい変へんなことになったわね。

  Good heavens, this has turned into quite a mess.
