Used at the beginning of a sentence to introduce a reason or explanation for a previously mentioned situation. Often followed by からだ or のだ.
彼は遅刻した。それというのも、電車が遅れたからだ。
He was late. The reason is that the train was delayed.
会議は中止になった。それというのも、部長が急病になったのだ。
The meeting was canceled. It is because the department head suddenly fell ill.
