Medical term used to describe symptoms or findings that can be observed by a clinician, as opposed to subjective complaints reported by the patient. Often contrasted with 自覚的 (subjective).
医師は他覚的な所見に基づいて診断を下した。
The doctor made a diagnosis based on objective findings.
自覚症状はないが、他覚的には異常が認められた。
There were no subjective symptoms, but objective abnormalities were observed.
Compound of 他 (other) + 覚 (perception) + 的 (-like, adjectival suffix). The term is a modern medical coinage based on the contrast with 自覚的 (subjective).
