noun
Archaic honorific term for one's own or someone else's uncle. In modern Japanese, おじさん or おじさま are used instead.
古文書には「伯父御」と記されているが、今では「おじさま」と呼ぶのが普通だ。
In old documents it is written as 伯父御, but nowadays it is normal to say おじさま.
Combination of 伯父/叔父 (oji, 'uncle') with the archaic honorific suffix 御 (go). The exact historical derivation is uncertain.
