noun, noun or participle which takes 'suru'
lined up in a row; arranged in a line
Extremely rare literary or historical term for things being lined up or displayed in a row. Not used in modern everyday Japanese; the common equivalent is 並べる or 列挙する. May appear in classical Chinese-influenced texts.
古い文献では、品物を臚列するという表現が見られることがある。
In old documents, one can sometimes find the expression 臚列する meaning to line up goods.
The kanji 臚 means 'to arrange in order' and 列 means 'row'. The reading ろれつ is the on'yomi of the characters. The word is a Sino-Japanese compound of classical origin, now obsolete.
