expression, i-adjective
couldn't ask for more; just what one wanted; heaven-sent
Expresses that something is so desirable it exceeds what one would even wish for. Often used for opportunities, offers, or news.
こんな条件は願ってもない話だ。
These terms are more than I could have hoped for.
願ってもないチャンスが突然訪れた。
A heaven-sent opportunity suddenly came my way.
望むところだ is more assertive ('just what I want'), often used when accepting a challenge, while 願ってもない focuses on the unexpected desirability of a situation.
From 願う (to wish) + ても (even if) + ない (not), literally 'not even if one wished', i.e., something so good one wouldn't even think to wish for it.
