Archaic transitive verb. In modern Japanese, it is mostly encountered in the compound 褒めそやす (ほめそやす), meaning 'to praise lavishly' or 'to sing the praises of'.

  In classical Japanese, そやす alone meant 'to praise', but now it is used in the form 褒めそやす.
