suru verb (irregular), transitive verb
to disregard; to ignore; to treat as nothing
Obsolete transitive suru verb meaning to treat someone or something as worthless or beneath consideration. Found in classical or pre-modern texts; not used in contemporary Japanese.
古い文献では、相手の意見を蔑すると書かれている。
In old documents, it is written that they disregarded the other party's opinion.
The expression 'to treat a person as nothing' is hardly used today.
Obsolete kanji spelling; the character 蔑 is not commonly used in modern Japanese.
Alternate obsolete spelling; 無み is an old form meaning 'nothing' or 'worthless'.
Derived from the noun 無み (なみ, 'nothingness, worthlessness') + する. The kanji 蔑 was later applied for its meaning of 'disdain'. The exact historical derivation is uncertain; the word fell out of common use and is now obsolete.
