Historical term for a boat used to transport people sentenced to exile or deportation, especially during the Edo period.
In the Edo period, criminals were sent into exile on deportation boats.
Formed from 遠島, “exile to a distant island,” and 船, with compound voicing changing ふね to ぶね.
