Set this one aside and there is no other: only this person, this method or this moment will do. It is written and emphatic, and mostly said in praise.

この難なん役やくを任まかせられる俳はい優ゆうは、彼かれをおいてほかにいない。

No actor but him could be trusted with this demanding role.

How to form it

Noun + をおいて（ほかに）+ negative

Mostly ほかにいない (nobody else) or ほかにない (nothing else). ほかに can drop, and is also written 他ほかに.

Before it: The one candidate: a person, a place, a method, a time. 今いまをおいてほかにない is "it's now or never".
After it: A negative. Now and then, a question that expects the answer "nobody": ほかに誰だれがいるだろうか.
Tone: Emphatic. Mostly high praise or a strong recommendation.
Where you'll meet it: Speeches, letters of recommendation, reviews, editorials. Rare in conversation.

何なにをおいても is a set phrase, "before anything else", and it needs no negative after it.

友ゆう人じんが困こまっているなら、何なにをおいても駆かけつける。
