づらいHard or uncomfortable to do
づらい says that an action feels hard for the person doing it. The difficulty may be physical, practical, emotional, or social, but it is usually experienced as some kind of burden or resistance.
Difficulty felt by the person acting
The action does not have to be impossible. What matters is that doing it feels awkward, painful, inconvenient, or emotionally uncomfortable. Contemporary use is not limited to emotional suffering: ordinary physical and practical obstacles can also make an action feel burdensome.
Physical, practical, and social burden
These are not rigid categories; they show the range of situations in which the same personally experienced difficulty can arise.
Neutral difficulty versus felt resistance
にくい is the broader, more neutral choice for something that is not readily done. づらい more readily highlights discomfort or resistance experienced by the person acting. In the pair below, the first sentence is about legibility, while the second adds an emotional burden. The two forms overlap, so this is a tendency rather than an absolute rule.
