より~のほうがB is more ... than A
This pattern compares two things and says that B has more of a particular quality than A. A is the baseline, while B is the higher or preferred side.
How the comparison works
The item before より is the baseline. The item before のほうが is the one described as faster, cheaper, easier, more frequent, or preferable.
Comparing different qualities
Leaving out an understood baseline
Because the question has already supplied both alternatives, the answer does not need to repeat the baseline.
Let the final description set the scale
The construction itself does not mean simply “better.” The final adjective, verb expression, or preference word tells you what is being compared: speed, price, size, frequency, ease, preference, or another meaningful scale.
