Which of two is more...?

Use this pattern to ask which of two named alternatives ranks higher in preference, quality, quantity, ease, or another shared comparison.

How the question works

Name exactly two alternatives, mark them with , and then ask What follows supplies the scale: for example, which is better, faster, cheaper, easier, or more desirable.

Which is cheaper, this store or that store?

Analyze

The final adjective establishes price as the scale of comparison.

Asking and answering

A

Which do you like better, curry or ramen?

Analyze
B

I like ramen better.

Analyze

A full answer often repeats the chosen alternative and adds のほうが before the same description used in the question.

Casual conversation

Which do you like better, movies or games?

Analyze

どっち fits relaxed conversation with friends and family. Use どちら when you want a neutral or polite tone.

Two choices versus a larger group

Use the present pattern when two alternatives are named directly. When choosing the top member of a larger defined group, use the group-superlative frame: group + なか + item + いちばん.
