The highest court in a country's judicial system. In Japanese, the term depends on the country. For Japan's own Supreme Court, use 最高裁判所. For foreign supreme courts, 最高裁判所 is also common, but 最高裁 is a shorter alternative. In some contexts, 最高法廷 may appear.

Used for foreign supreme courts as well, often with the country name. E.g., アメリカ最高裁判所 (U.S. Supreme Court).

The U.S. Supreme Court consists of nine justices.
Literally 'supreme court', but less common. May be used for some foreign courts or in historical contexts.
英国最高法廷は2009年に設立された。
The UK Supreme Court was established in 2009.
When referring to a specific country's supreme court, add the country name before 最高裁判所. For example, カナダ最高裁判所 (Supreme Court of Canada).
Abbreviated form also used for foreign courts in less formal contexts.
