Translation guide
An essayist is a writer of essays. In Japanese, the most common and natural term is エッセイスト, a loanword from English. There are also native Japanese terms like 随筆家, which is more literary and formal, and 評論家, which refers to a critic or commentator rather than a personal essayist.
