途中 (とちゅう) is used for being on the way to a destination or in the middle of an action. 中間 (ちゅうかん) is more about a static midpoint between two points or stages. For 'halfway through a book', use 途中 (とちゅう). For 'the middle point of a line', use 中間 (ちゅうかん).
Avoid directly translating 'halfway' as 半分の道 (はんぶんのみち) or similar. It sounds unnatural. Use 途中 (とちゅう) or 中間 (ちゅうかん) depending on context.
