Expresses that an action is currently underway and not yet complete. Japanese uses several grammar patterns depending on whether you focus on the middle of an action, a gradual change, or being busy with something.
The speaker is currently engaged in an action and has not finished it.
The most direct and common way to say 'in the process of V-ing'. Emphasizes that you are right in the middle of the action. V must be in te-form.
I'm in the process of doing my homework right now.

Similar to ところ but slightly more formal and emphasizes being in the very midst of the action. Often used when interrupted.

ところ is the most common and neutral for 'in the middle of doing'. 最中 emphasizes being in the very midst, often when interrupted. つつある is formal and used for gradual processes or changes, not for momentary actions.

Avoid directly translating 'in the process of' as プロセス or 過程 unless you are talking about a literal process or procedure. The grammar patterns above are much more natural for ongoing actions.
