Translation guide
In Japanese, the word for 'older brother' depends on whose brother you're talking about, the formality of the situation, and your relationship with the listener. There is no single all-purpose word.

Using お兄さん to refer to your own older brother when speaking to someone outside your family sounds like you are elevating your own family member, which is considered rude. Use 兄 (あに) instead.
In Japanese families, it's common to address an older brother by his given name or a nickname, especially among adults or when the age gap is small. Using お兄ちゃん etc. is more common among children or in very close families.
