点検 (てんけん) implies a detailed check, often physical (like inspecting a machine). 検査 (けんさ) is more formal, often medical or official. 確認 (かくにん) is simply confirming or verifying information. Choose based on the nature of the inspection.
Both mean 'preliminary' or 'advance'. 事前 is more common for 'beforehand' in general, while 予備 implies 'reserve' or 'preparatory'. 事前点検 is a natural collocation for pre-use checks.
