Translation guide
How to refer to 'this office' in Japanese depends on whether you mean the physical room, the company/organization, or the people working there. The most common and natural way is to use この事務所 (kono jimusho) for a general office, but in business contexts, 当社 (tousha) or 弊社 (heisha) are used to refer to one's own company humbly.
This office is spacious, isn't it?
Loanword from English, commonly used in modern, casual, or trendy contexts. Slightly more casual than 事務所.
This office is stylish, isn't it?
Polite version of この事務所. Use when speaking to clients or superiors.
This office is our head office.
The speaker is referring to their own company or organization in a business context, often when talking to outsiders.
Humble way to say 'our company' or 'this office' when speaking to clients or other companies. Very common in business emails and calls.
I will explain about our company's products.
Neutral/formal way to say 'our company'. Used in official documents or when speaking neutrally about one's own company. Less humble than 弊社.
Very polite and humble, literally 'our office'. Used in formal introductions or when showing respect.
The speaker is talking about the staff or colleagues in the office, not the physical space.
弊社 (heisha) is humble and used when talking to outsiders (clients, other companies). 当社 (tousha) is neutral and used in official statements or when no particular humility is needed. Using 弊社 with insiders can sound overly humble or sarcastic.
Our company has launched a new service. (to a client)
Our company's performance is steady. (in a report)
この会社 (kono kaisha) means 'this company', not 'this office'. If you mean the physical office, use この事務所 or このオフィス. Using 会社 might confuse the listener into thinking you mean the entire corporation.
This company is big, isn't it? (not office)
当社は今年で創業50周年を迎えます。
Our company will celebrate its 50th anniversary this year.
Our office is this way.
