Tonsillitis is an inflammation of the tonsils, usually caused by infection. In Japanese, it is most commonly expressed with the medical term 扁桃炎 (へんとうえん).

Antibiotics are sometimes used to treat tonsillitis.
Literally 'tonsil gland inflammation'. Slightly more colloquial, but still common. Often used interchangeably with 扁桃炎.
