A demonstrative pronoun referring to a child or young person, often with a sense of familiarity or affection. The gender is not specified unless the kanji 娘 is used.
あの子はとても元気だね。
That kid is really energetic, isn't he/she?
あの娘は私の妹です。
That girl is my younger sister.

you (archaic, to a servant girl)
Archaic second-person pronoun used by brothel owners or senior prostitutes when addressing servant girls. Not used in modern Japanese.

昔の廓では、主人が奉公の少女に「あの子、お茶を持ってきな」などと言った。
In old red-light districts, the master would say to a servant girl, 'You, bring some tea.'
A compound of the demonstrative あの (that over there) and 子 (child). The reading あのこ is a straightforward combination.
