Used after a verb or adjective to indicate a degree so great that it can be described in a certain way. Often followed by a summarizing statement.
驚くというくらい、部屋が散らかっていた。
The room was so messy you could say it was shocking.
彼は食べるというくらい、たくさん注文した。
He ordered so much food you could say he eats a lot.
Combines 言う and 位; very rare.
Combination of quotative という and extent marker くらい (or voiced variant ぐらい). Literally 'to the extent that one says'.
