Used when acting for someone else, often in formal or business contexts. Similar to の代わりに but with a slightly more formal tone.

• 社しゃ長ちょうにかわり、副ふく社しゃ長ちょうがご挨あい拶さつ申もうし上あげます。

  On behalf of the president, the vice president will give the greeting.
