no!; don't!; stop!

Used to scold small children or pets; carries a sharp, corrective tone. Often accompanied by a pointing finger or stern look.

• 子こどもがお菓か子しに手てを伸のばしたので、「めっ！」と言いった。

  When the child reached for the sweets, I said, "No!"

• 犬いぬが靴くつをかじろうとしたら、「めっ！」と叱しかる。

  When the dog tries to chew on the shoes, I scold it with a "Stop!"
