A polite, explanatory conjunction used after a verb or adjective to give a reason or excuse, often softening a statement. Similar to ので but more formal and explanatory.

• 電でん車しゃが遅おくれましたものですから、遅ち刻こくしてしまいました。

  The train was delayed, so I ended up being late.

• 昨日きのうは体たい調ちょうが悪わるかったものですから、早そう退たいさせていただきました。

  I wasn't feeling well yesterday, so I left early.
