ものだから・
ものだから・もので・ものですから explains the circumstance behind an awkward result, such as a delay, mistake, or failure. It often sounds as though the speaker is asking the listener to understand, so it can have an excuse-like nuance.
What the expression does
The reason is presented as a circumstance that led to an already existing result. The speaker is not necessarily being dishonest: the explanation may be entirely genuine. The excuse-like feeling comes from asking for understanding rather than simply stating a reason.
The three main variants
All three variants explain an awkward outcome, but they differ slightly in tone.
道がひどく混んでいたものだから、会議に遅れてしまいました。
The traffic was terribly congested, so I ended up being late for the meeting.

Where politeness appears
Before ものですから, normally keep the reason in its plain form. The です in the ending already supplies the polite tone; do not mechanically insert a polite verb form before it.
Choosing among similar reason expressions
ものだから explains an awkward outcome and invites understanding. ので gives a more neutral background reason. By contrast, のだから more assertively invokes a reason that the listener is expected to recognize, often as grounds for a conclusion or action.
