hiragana repetition mark
A typographic symbol used in hiragana text to indicate that the previous hiragana character is repeated. Rare in modern standard writing but may appear in older texts, calligraphy, or stylistic contexts.
In old books, ゝ is used as in 'かゝし' (kakashi).
ゝ is a hiragana repetition mark and is rarely used today.
Derived from a simplified form of the hiragana character と (to) or こ (ko), used as a shorthand to repeat the previous hiragana character.
