Harijan; member of India's untouchable caste
Refers to a person belonging to the historically marginalized caste in India, often called 'untouchables'. The term was popularized by Mahatma Gandhi. In modern usage, 'Dalit' is more common, but ハリジャン is still understood in Japanese contexts discussing Indian society.
