noun
closed-down shop; household no longer running a business
Kansai dialect term for a former shop that has gone out of business, or a household that once ran a business but no longer does. The word carries a sense of faded commercial activity.
この通りには仕舞うた屋が増えてきた。
The number of closed-down shops on this street has been increasing.
あの家はもと呉服屋やったけど、今は仕舞うた屋や。
That house used to be a kimono fabric shop, but now it's just a household that no longer runs a business.
From the Kansai dialect past tense しもうた (equivalent to standard しまった) of the verb 仕舞う (しまう, 'to finish, put away'), combined with 屋 (や, 'shop, house'). Literally 'a shop that has finished (business)'.
