Used with a negative verb to emphasize that there is very little of something, or that something hardly happens.

• 冷れい蔵ぞう庫こにはわずかしか食たべ物ものが残のこっていない。

  There is only a little food left in the fridge.

• 彼かれはわずかしか日本にほん語ごを話はなせない。

  He can speak only a little Japanese.
