Historical term for a taxi with a flat one-yen fare, used mainly in the Taishō and early Shōwa periods. Now a dated word; modern Japanese uses タクシー.

• 大たい正しょう時じ代だいには、円えんタクが街まちを走はしっていた。

  In the Taishō period, one-yen taxis ran through the streets.

• 「円えんタク」は一いち円えんタクシーの略りゃくで、今いまはもう使つかわれない言こと葉ばだ。

  円タク is an abbreviation of 一円タクシー, a word no longer used today.
