Terek sandpiper
A migratory shorebird (Xenus cinereus) with a distinctive upturned bill. The name is usually written in katakana.
I spotted a Terek sandpiper on the tidal flat.
Kanji spelling is rare and mainly encountered in specialized or older texts.
The name ソリハシシギ literally means 'curved-bill sandpiper', from 反り (そり, curve) + 嘴 (はし, bill) + 鷸 (しぎ, sandpiper).
