Japanese-style low desk
A short-legged desk used while sitting on the floor, traditionally in tatami rooms. Contrasts with Western-style desks (洋机).
There is an old Japanese-style low desk at my grandmother's house.
I sat on my heels at the low desk and wrote a letter.
Compound of 和 (wa, 'Japanese-style') and 机 (tsukue, 'desk'), with rendaku voicing yielding づくえ (zuke).
